Apple to Debut iPad 2 on March 2: Report

Tech giant sends out invites to press event — will Steve Jobs attend?

Apple distributed press invites on Wednesday for an iPad-related event — scheduled for March 2 at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts — that’s rumored to be the unveiling of the iPad 2.

All Things Digital said “analysts expect the iPad 2 to be thinner than its predecessor and feature an improved display, as well as front-facing camera and Facetime video chat support … and some reports suggest it will be powered by one of Qualcomm’s multimode chips and will run on both GSM and CDMA-based networks around the world.”

Apple has sold more than 15 million iPads since the launch of the tablet last spring.

It’s unclear whether or not Apple chief Steve Jobs — currently on medical leave — will attend the event. Jobs, who unveiled the iPad himself last January, attended a Silicon Valley dinner for Barack Obama last week.
