Armie Hammer Joins Ruth Bader Ginsburg Biopic ‘On the Basis of Sex’

Armie Hammer On the Basis of Sex

Armie Hammer has joined the cast of the Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic “On the Basis of Sex” from Participant Media, the company announced Thursday.

Based on the life of renowned Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Hammer will play opposite Felicity Jones in the film directed by Mimi Leder from a script by Daniel Stiepleman, who is also Ginsburg’s nephew.

Robert Cort will produce, while Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King of Participant Media will executive produce. The feature is slated for release in 2018, in line with Ginsburg’s 25th anniversary as a Supreme Court Justice.

“On the Basis of Sex” follows young law professor Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Jones) and her husband Marty Ginsburg (Hammer) as they team up to bring the first landmark gender discrimination case before the Supreme Court.

Hammer will next be seen starring in Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me By Your Name,” Stanley Tucci’s “Final Portrait,” and Anthony Maras’ “Hotel Mumbai.” He was most recently seen in “Free Fire” and also voiced the role of Jackson Storm for Pixar’s “Cars 3.”

“On the Basis of Sex” is planned for release through Participant’s output arrangements via Amblin Partners, with Focus Features distributing domestically. International output partners are Entertainment One (eOne), Nordisk, CJ Entertainment, Alibaba Pictures, Reliance Entertainment and Lev Cinema. Lionsgate will sell all available international territories.

Hammer is represented by WME and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
