Academy Mixes Things Up by Nominating 10 for Top Honor

Disney released a triptych of posters for this spring's "Alice in Wonderland" on Thursday. The committee unanimously supported the plan and presented it to the 45-member Board Tuesday night.
Initially, the plan was that if the Board adopted the change, the Academy would notify the press Wednesday morning about a press conference to be held tomorrow.
But the Oscar staff decided that there would be no way to keep the news under wraps once the Board voted. So they scheduled this morning's press conference a couple of days ago, with a plan to call it off if the Governors voted against the change.
At Tuesday night's Board meeting, support was almost unanimous. According to some who were at the meeting, only one voiced "mild opposition" on the grounds that it would dilute the value of a nomination. That Governor abstained from voting, but everybody else voted in favor.
Ganis’ term as Academy president concludes in August, when a new president will be elected. Decisions such as who will produce this year's show will be made after the transition.
The 82nd Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Feb. 2. The Oscar ceremony returns to the Kodak Theatre on March 7 and will be televised live by ABC.

My fear is that this will lower the value of that highly touted Oscar nod. The "club" will be less exclusive now. Only time will tell whether or not that is a good thing.

I'm ecstatic to hear this news.
I've been watching the Oscars for years & almost every year there is that thought of "why did that film not get a nomination?" or "what where they thinking leaving that one out?"
I think this will make for a better race for the BEST PICTURE of the year.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science doubling the number of best picture nominees! Who knows? I know a comedy film that will be among the nominees!! I can see it now! This film yielding much and receiving an immediate return. I am telling you it will bring to the table drama, comedy and suspense. Hilariously funny causing both the muscles in your face and stomach to tighten up from laughing so hard.
Some might even fall from their seats. Believe me! You will not be able to keep a straight face. I suggest that you use the restroom first before you enter into this movie. Why?
