“Sherlock Holmes” wins for Best Action, “District 9” for Best Thriller
For the first time ever, a documentary, the Academy Award-winning “The Cove,” took the overall trophy for Best in Show at the 11th Annual Golden Trailer Awards Thursday night. The trailer for the Roadside Attractions/Lionsgate film was cut by AV Squad.
Among the other trailer winners were “Sherlock Holmes” (Warner Bros. with Mojo) for Best Action, “District 9” (Sony Pictures with Create Advertising Group) for Best Thriller, the soon-to-be released Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz action-comedy “Knight and Day” (20th Century Fox with Wild Card) for Summer 2010 Blockbuster and “Brothers” (Lionsgate with Seismic Productions)
for Best Drama.
The award for Best Trailer for a Bad Movie went to "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" (First Look Studios, Mob Scene).
Trashiest Trailer went to IFC’s “The Human Centipede.” Of that win, Stephen Garrett of Kinetic Trailers said, “I’ve been waiting 11 years to win this.”
Overall, Lionsgate for the second year scored the most wins, taking 11 Golden Trailer Awards — and topping its sweep last year of nine.
The trailer house garnering the most wins was Mark Woollen & Associates, with 10 statuettes, edging out Ignition’s nine.
Hosted for the second year by comedian/actor Dean Edwards ("Saturday Night Live"), the awards were held at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles.
Trailer cutters, like their product, are far from long-winded – most accepted their awards with a quick “thank you” – warned by Edwards that Ludicris’ “Get Out of the Way Bitch” would start to play.
However, when accepting for “Brothers” (Best Drama), Seismic productions did thank “Tobey Maguire for letting us come to his house to do ADR and I also want to thank the MPAA — that was fun.”
The biggest laughs came from a video featuring Edwards asking random people questions on Hollywood Boulevard: “Would you have enjoyed “Precious” more if it had been in 3D?” or, “Would you rather have a free DVD of “The Hurt Locker” or a $10 gift certificate at the Footlocker?”
