CBS will replace the longest-running drama on television with what's behind door number one.

The network has given the go-ahead to a new version of "Let's Make a Deal," the product placement-friendly game show in which contestants bargain for the best possible prizes while trying to avoid getting zonked.

It replaces "Guiding Light," the iconic soap opera exiting the CBS lineup Sept. 18.

Comic/actor Wayne Brady ("Don't Forget the Lyrics!") is expected to host the new "Deal," filling the legendary shoes of original host/producer Monty Hall, said people familiar with the details of the decision. FremantleMedia North America is producing the revival, which is expected to launch Oct. 5.

The pickup gives FremantleMedia two hours of real estate on the CBS daytime lineup -- the studio also produces the long-running "The Price Is Right."

And it also reunites Brady with his "Whose Line is It Anyway" colleague, Drew Carey. Carey hosts "Price."

CBS is expected to officially announce the deal for "Deal" Monday morning at its portion of the Television Critics Assn. summer press tour. The network has left a hole in its tour schedule; it's likely Brady and the "Deal" producers will fill that gap.

Network officials weren't commenting Sunday on the "Deal" pickup, or what it means for the other big contender for "Guiding Light's" time slot -- a new version of "The $100,000 Pyramid." That show, from producer Michael Davies, also taped a pilot this summer and had been considered a strong candidate for a series order.

One of the big advantages of "Deal," however, is that its format is ideally suited to show off potential sponsors' brands -- a major plus in an age when networks are looking to integrate brand messages into programming. "Price Is Right" has proven that such an ad-friendly format can work on CBS.

"Let's Make a Deal" first premiered as an NBC daytime series in 1963, then jumped to ABC in 1968, running an additional eight years. At least three different syndicated versions of the format have been attempted over the years.

Most recently, NBC tried to bring back "Deal" in prime-time, airing several episodes of a revival in 2003.

Let's be realistic...these threatened boycotts don't mean anything to the powers that be, whether from conservative Christians or angry soap fans. Besides, it's about time we had a new network daytime game show, and I'm enjoying LMaD...doing quite well in the ratings, too, increasing the time slot by 7% over what GL was pulling in a year ago, not to mention it's much cheaper for CBS to produce, making it a win-win for the network.

"Guiding Light" was cancelled because the producers felt that it was time to wrap it up after over 80 years on the air, if you add in its years on both radio and TV. Plus, as was the case with many other soap operas that have gone off the air, "Guiding Light" began to lose popularity to other daytime soaps, such as "All My Children" and "Days of Our Lives". As far as "Let's Make A Deal" is concerned, many people who followed the format that was on the air starting in the '60s and continuing through the '80s and early '90s, wanted to see the show come back on the air.

When Guiding Light was cancelled I stopped watching CBS shows, local news and national news. In addition I will not buy a Proctor and Gamble Product or buy any product sold by the replacement show. The powers that be at CBS thought viewers would just go to another of their soaps but I will not view any CBS shows.

CBS made a deal all right. It made a deal to lose all the Guiding Light viewers by casting a show aside that had been aired for 72 years. While some people say daytime soaps are going out of style, they obviously don't know what they're talking about. Millions of viewers across our great nation enjoy watching soaps. Game shows will NEVER replace soaps. Why? Because if people truly enjoyed game shows, we would not have been watching soaps for the last 50 years or so. I agree with the other posts...as of Friday, September 18, 2009, at 4:01 p.m., CBS is LEAVING my television. And, Proctor & Gamble...losing customers right and left. Personally, I'd like to pack up all the crap I have in my home now that has that label on it and drop it off at the local CBS affiliate. Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Drew Carey, etc., etc...it's not hello, but goodbye!

The viewers of Guiding Light have already made a deal. The deal is we are turning OFF CBS as of Friday, September 18, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. Proctor & Gamble is also going to lose some sales.

Well CBS is saying goodbye to my one and only favorite The Guiding Light. I can't believe every stone has been turned in the search for another network to pick it up. So it's my turn to say goodbye to CBS network. It makes me so mad that all the other 17,800 and something petition signatures means nothing to CBS and obviously Proctor-Gamble. And come on!! Let's Make A Deal in it's time slot. GOODBYE.

Cant believe that CBS would cancel the longest running show, to put on Lets Make a Deal???!?!? I've watched GL since I was 10 (33 years) my teens watch it, their friends, my sisters, friends, etc., who will watch Lets Make a Deal? None of us. How stupid CBS. No longer my favorite network. The last day GL aires will be the last time I watch.

I was very unhappy that Guiding light was airing on different time slot especially in Major TV Markets like Chicago,Philadelphia,Boston and New York where it was aired at 10:00AM Eastern Time while everybody else saw it at 3:00PM Eastern and did not do any good with GL.
I pray and hope that Let's Make A Deal will have a lot of Sucess with CBS.

most of you crabby GL fantards are out of touch with Reality. old Soaps are yesterdays news! Move the heck on!

Gail,Donna,Bertha, Leslie, Beth,Lydia, Debbie, Oleta, Gertrude, Beatrice, Mabel, Jemima and All you whiners are out of touch with reality! Daytime Soap operas are a decining business. and most of you "Im-a gonna boycott see-B-S" retards are in the MINORITY of a SHRINKING market. The TV world has changed. the networks are not what they used to be, and Cable is not what they used to be either. It all sucks now! I can't tell the differenc e between the two and as for all you Red Diaper Doper Babies crying about "yet another game show" "OMG NOT another freaking Game show!" LISTEN AND LISTEN GOOD! NOT ONE SINGLE NEW GA,ME SHOW HAS AIRED IN DAYTIME ON NETWORK TV IN 15+ years (and the passing of the baton from Bob to Drew does NOT COUNT!)
WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU IN 1994-1999 when the cancer of Talk TV spread ? personally there should be MORE game shows on the air! BTW P&G and CBS will survive without you dopes! For the record I abhor revivals of gameshows.(we need more original ideas) and probably will not be watching Brady's LMAD for that reason. ( IMO CBS shoulda gotten Pyramid!) Guiding Light was a show that whose time has passed. they were'nt pulling the numbers anymore. Get Over IT! MOVE ON! And as a fact I do not watch much TV anymore daytime or primetime. the TV business like most of Hollywood downright SUCKS! The real entertainers are the original talent on the Web and the Youtube..and it is THEY who should have the TV slots today.

My only hope is that they got rid of that Jacket that Monty is wearing. I can just see Mr Brady in that one.

I have watched Guiding Light for 22 years. When I was sick and stayed home from school I would watch GL. I can't believe after 72 years CBS and P&G decided to cancel GL. I bet Irna Phillips, creator of GL is rolling in her grave. CBS and P&G please reconsider and keep GL or find another network for her. I agree that the storyline was getting off track and is finally coming back to what the soap is about. All GL needs is a great storyline, better writers and filmed inside instead of outdoors. The sound is horrible and it feels like a reality show instead of a soap. We do not need another game show especially a remake. PLEASE, CBS and P&G keep GL. When the last episode is aired that will be my last day to watch anything on CBS. I will watch the soaps on NBC & ABC and will stop buying P&G products.

I won't be watchin CBS when take off Guiding Light. At least not the replacement.
Should keep this show and forget about the game show stuff.

I don't know where all of these comments about CBS putting on "yet another game show" are coming from... the networks haven't had a new game show in over 15 years!

The Price is Right is IT. Sure, there are syndicated shows, but the networks haven't had an actual game show in daytime in forever.

Guiding Light could of been saved. The reason a lot of viewers stopped watching it was over the Reva/ Cassie/ Josh saga. It got to crazy, they really dropped the ball and REva's cancer situation. They brought too many new people in and lost its roots. However, the past few months they are finally starting to get back to the real GL. I hope someone picks the show up and I will stop watching CBS for doing this! I hope another station is smart enough to pick it up and make sure they have good writers in place that wil focus on the main story lines and going back to the roots!

cbs and p&g will never be seen in my home never ! folks we need to stop now and hope they see the light before it is to late. back when the moon and stars were on p&g a little hell raisen changed that ! fans stick togather no cbs now or P&G now!!!! to them that count at G L shanes lewis spaldings you have been one of the better parts of my life GOD bless you all

Neither CBS nor P&G seem to have seriously tried to save GL. P&G just doesn't want a backlash. And they don't seem to be trying to save ATWT. If they were why wouldn't they be making changes at the top? The only thing that could help is good stories and they haven't had one in years that viewers couldn't see coming from a mile away. And what little suspense they could build is ruined by previews that give to much away. Why not tighten up ATWT and GL by reverting them to half hours, moving both shows to the Brooklyn facility where ATWT is produced? Yes, they would have to trim cast but they could become tightly focused shows and save money on production by consolidating everything in one facility. I don't think it's going to happen. CBS tipped their hand when they declined to air the Daytime Emmys this year. They have more daytime shows to promote than ABC or NBC but didn't care enough to bother.

I LOVE GUIDING LIGHT and CBS sucks! Game Show? What the? No one cares about a stupid game show! We care about or best friend that makes us laugh and cry and eger to return to fill our selves with the joy or fear or sorrow or love that Guiding light gives us. Who wants to see some jackass with the smile of a car salesman say lets make a deal? Not me and as soon as GL goes off the air, CBS will never again air on my teli.

Unfortunately, both CBS and P&G/Telenext are done with their "classic" shows. ATWT will be cancelled next summer, and there goes another 50+ years of television history, for another game show.

Putting another game show and replacing Guiding light is stupid. I cannot believe that they cannot find another network that would be able to take Guiding light. I have been watching Gl for over 33 years and its disgusting that they can even think of taking it off the air and have as many reality shows as there is on. Stupid Move CBS you will be sorry when the ratings go down alot.

I won't be watching anything on CBS after GL is of he air. I've watched for over 40 years starting at my mother's knee on days when I was small and on days I missed from school, and the breaks during college, I actually scheduled all my college courses around GL. This makes me so sad, like the end of 72 years, like I'm losing my mother all over again. Good bye CBS and PG. Stupid Game shows we don't need, and please not another Dr. Phil or Oprah. We have enough of those.

Does remember when Bob Eubanks "came on down" on Price is Right in 1985 to promote Card Sharks? Check it out on Youtube. They might apporoach it a simular way with Wayne Brady promoting Let's Make A Deal.

Glad Guiding Light is being taken off. Now I can officially STOP watching CBS! What a joke. CBS is more to blame for the cancellation of Guiding Light. Maybe if they knew how to run a network maybe "their" longest running show wouldn't be cancelled. I think monkeys could do a better job. Next at fault, PG. Stop buying their products.

CBS has officially become the Crap Broadcasting System, and it won't be seen on any TV in my household after September 18th. Thanks Barbara Bloom for nothing, except freeing up 3.5 hours of my time each day - time that I used to spend watching CBS daytime. Thank you GL for 72 great years, and FU CBS.

They brought back the wrong show! "MATCH GAME", CBS... "MATCH GAME"! And Wayne Brady would have been great as the host, too.

Bring "MG" back, but not with forced, unfunny, outright sex jokes, like the later, short-run, horrible versions. Bring it back with subtle innuendo, like the Gene Rayburn version. The Rayburn version was fun and hysterical!

While GUIDING LIGHT's cancellation was a no-brainer, what's most surprising is that the network didn't simply give the hour back to affiliates. One expects that if DEAL fails, they will.

Wayne Brady is more entertaining than Billy Bush, Dean Cain, and Tim Vincent combined. Odds are this will be an hour long just like Billy Bush's version. Let's Make A Deal has a better chance of interacting with The Price is Right viewership. It will be nice to see Drew and Wayne together again.

Huge mistake! I won't be watching CBS. They are removing an American Icon.
Do we really need another game show? No. What we need is the Guilding Light to stay on the air. I wish some station would realize this, and pick up the Guilding Light, if CBS just doesn't get it.

WE WANTED PYRAMID BACK ON CBS!!! CBS WILL BE SORRY!

Terrible move CBS. Lets Make a Deal will fail.

Not gonna watch the show either, tell you that too!!!!!! After September 21, 2009 ? CBS.... CBS WHO ? NO WAY !!! NO F*****NG CBS ON MY TV !!!!!

Cancelling the iconic "Guiding Light" was a huge mistake and CBS will be paying the price, they will lose millions of loyal viewers from the daytime line-up as soon as September 21, 2009 rolls around.

CBS let's make a deal, you cancel "Guiding Light" and you will lose me as a viewer for good. Well since you've already done that, so it's "Goodbye CBS, Hello cable!"

I will not be watching this game show I can tell you that !!!! I will not watch anything that takes this time slot away from guiding light !!!! Sorry nothing will ever intrest me on cbs again not news not anything !!!!
