MTV has scuttled earlier-announced plans to do a made-for-cable remake of the 1975 cult musical-horror classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
While not specifying a reason for why the project was killed, a spokeswoman for the Viacom-owned cable channel said the movie has been off the network’s development slate for some time.
A rep for Fox TV Studios, which was to be a co-producer of the film, said the decision to not go forward was made months ago.
MTV generated the expected amount of fanfare when it announced the remake last fall.
Lou Adler, producer of the original motion picture, was to exec produce the updated version in partnership with BermanBraun.

In a funny sort of way it was done again when they did "Little Shop of Horrors". It followed the same chemestry, just not the same story. They had some good acting, and it was pretty good. However, redo Rocky Horror.. in this day and age ... Right

Thank god this abortion of an idea was halted. No one can remake a cult classic like RHPS. What was MTV thinking in the first place? Oh wait..that's right....High School Musical and making sequels of THAT crap.

Yeah, you can't improve the movie. The new-age audience has already ruined it entirely. Seriously, I wouldn't have mind of seeing a new experience of the movie. That's why I only go see the play, because it's new and fresh and most of the time the audience doesn't follow. Thanks a lot morons.

If the original can still draw in crowds of thousands to each theatre and cinema it's shown in (which it can and does!!) why bother to remake it and steal that sparkle that everyone loves!?

Oh, THANK GOD... was on cast of the local production for 3 years... almost went into a coma thinking about MTV/Fox teaming up to re-make RHPS. Of all the failed attempts at remaking classics / cult-classics, MTV re-making RHPS is as terrible an idea of re-making Ten Commandments with the cast from Jack Ass. What would be next, Howard Stern re-making Gone With The Wind with a dancer from Scores as Scarlet O'Hara and Ron Jeremy as Rhet Butler? Thank GOD this project is dead (or I hope it is)!
