Oprah Winfrey's show will end in 2011 after a 25-year-run, according to a statement from CBS.

The talk-show host and media mogul plans to announce during a Friday taping of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that her final broadcasts will be held in September of 2011.

"We have the greatest respect for Oprah and wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors," the CBS statement reads. "We know that anything she turns her hand to will be a great success. We look forward to working with her for the next several years, and hopefully afterwards as well."

Harpo, Inc., did not immediately respond to requests for comment from TheWrap.

TheWrap suggested in early November that Winfrey might be planning to bow out of her decades-long career to focus on her new cable network. At the time, Winfrey had transferred Lisa Erspamer, one of her top lieutenants from Chicago and the co-executive producer of the show, to Los Angeles to be the chief creative officer for the nascnet Oprah Winfrey Network, fuelling speculation that the talk show queen herself might soon follow.

Like everything else on daytime television, ratings have been way down in recent years for "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which is coming off its worst summer on record, audience-wise, and averaging a 5.4 metered-market rating, according to Nielsen. That number is half of what it was a decade ago.

ABC owned and operated stations, which license the show from CBS TV Distribution in the biggest TV markets, pay a premium for the program, with WABC-TV in New York coughing up $310,000 a week for "Oprah,” and KABC-TV in L.A. paying $230,000.

Meanwhile, they’re getting less "Oprah" than ever. Winfrey’s current contract requires her to produce only 26 weeks of original episodes next season -- normal daytime shows do about 39 weeks of originals.

However, “Oprah” is still by far the most popular, influential show on daytime television. And the stations that license it not only get Winfrey’s still robust audience, they are able to use the show to prop up other profit centers. Most stations that license “Oprah” use it to lead into their local newscast, for example.

Hallo Oprah,
What a surprised to hear that you will ended your talk show.
U know whatever your planning to do in the future, I wish you the best and may God Bless you more so you can keep continued to bless others.
My husband family also in Chicago, since last September until lated October we kept passing your studio, and last September I do stop at your store. it is lovely and I hope next time I'm in Chicago you have a new staff at the store. I was wearing your sweater, and a lot of people hear in California give me a complement how nice it was.
Happy Thanks Giving.

Netty Miller.

Who cares.

How many days till sign-off in 2011? Just curious, since we are sure to hear about The Great Departure almost daily.

do that womans ever take a pic with her mouth shut?

I heard Tyler will do the show as Madea. That's what I did hear. I would so watch it too. Really. He's so much better looking than Opras.

Any truth to the rumor Tyler Perry will take over, dressed as a woman?

A great way to get the ratings up for awhile. Really does there have to be major pay-out for the run-out?

Dear Miss OPRA

I am verry sad to hear that you're going to leave ,such an educated and knowledgeable women like you who shared with us all her life experience and passion for the lve of brodcast.

It's a really BIG loss . love you OPRA .

Oprah is really so inspiring to all woman. I see nothing but good she does for all people. really she's inspiring. I grew up watching Oprah!

life is unfair, some people make wealth showing up on TV and others drudge all their life long to barely earn their living. Life really sucks

life is unfair, some people make wealth showing up on TV and others drudge all their life long to barely earn their living. Life really sucks

Thank God. It looks like a lot of people will have to learn to think for themselves.

I watch Opra shows whenever I get oportunity to do so. Her shows are sensational!Ilove and respect your talents and skills Opra. Remember, whenever God closes one door, another door opens. You will be off to something better. Cheers

Oprah! Share some of your money with me!!! I deserve it! Love and kisses, baby!

It is sad to see and hear how ungreatful people are.I am from Kenya and probably the biggest fan of Oprah! My friends and family sit and always learn a lesson from her shows.I will miss watching Oprah as it is areason for me to look forward to end of the day coz Oprah will be on.
I married an American and was a dream of mine that the day I will visit America to be at one of her shows!
Truly you are inspirational to women and everyone should stop all this negative vibe and give credit where it is due!
You are a true ambassador to your country and women all around the world and will watch your show to the last one!

@ Peggy. You are the prime of example of people who take rumor and try to turn it into fact. I have the show you referenced on tape (ribbon cutting ceremony in Africa) if you need it! She NEVER said I don't owe "white" people anything. Here's what Oprah had to say when asked why Africa and not the United States:
" What is different about this country is that there is this sort of desperate yearning to know better and do better that you just don't have in the United States," she said. "You don't have it because the opportunity's always been there."

Keep your racist comments to yourself as well ( "her BLACK voice"?) Are you kidding me? I pray you don't have offspring.

Oprah has been a money hungry person all her career, from the very time she exploited people and their human problems on the daytime - 'let's slam the poor' put them in public eye and make a mockery of them...'nobody is doing that.... probably a GREAT show - she says to her potential sponsers. Then OFF she ran...to where she is today....WHO put her there....not herself alone, not the networks, the audience. If she wanted to better the world that has made room for her in their hearts and homes, then why is she running to hollywood - so she can earn more and not be noticed so she would not owe back to society? IF a person gets their fame from the general public....they should show that by taking part outside in their domain, and not behind the walls of TV or networks or anything else with a curtain or wall.

I don't watch TV at all. The only time I have seen Oprah was on the TV in my patient's room. Therefore, I don't know all that has been presented on her shows and can't be sure of anything. I can say that I have always received some valuable piece of information every time I caught a glimpse of her show.

I know that Oprah is a intelligent business woman, with advisers that told her not air anything that would offend the tunnel vision Christians and be viewed as "New Age Crap".

She could have kept the her ratings the same if she would have marketed the simpletons that believe only what someone else has drilled into their heads, not a conclusion they arrived at by a comprehensive comparison and evaluation of all documentation without bias influences.

I didn't have to know everything about her and her shows to know she has demonstrated courage that I can't even think of an example to compare it to.

I am in AWE! Never give in Oprah, You go girl.

Namaste,
Teena Marie

HI OPRAH YOU HAVE DONE A LOT THANK YOU VERY MUCH BUT NOW IT IS HIGH TIME TO COME IN AFRICA A SPECIAL TANZANIA THERE IS A LOT TO DO
YOU ARE MOST WELL COME

I really liked Oprah for many years. Then like everyone else in the lime light who have money to burn, they start believeing they are a god. They really think everyone loves them. No doubt many do. One of the things that really turned me off to her, was all the extravagant gifts given especially to other movie stars and millionairs, for what? It's her money and she can do anything she pleases, but when you give publicly for whatever reason, expect that people will have an opinion. The Bible says dont let your left hand know what your right hand does. But where would that get her in popularity? I agree with an earlier comment, she should have quit before her head got too big to get out the door.

I enjoy the Oprah show - she makes me laugh and cry. I will miss her show when she leaves the major network in 2011. Don't be hard on her - she is a successful woman and has worked hard for what she has accomplished. She does a lot of good for a lot of people and will continue to do so, I'm sure. God bless you Oprah!

Oprah became a household name not only in America but almost all over the world.

Ending is always sad but it is also a beginning of something else.

Lets hope that whoever take over her airtime will be as good as her or even better.

She maybe became boring the last few episodes but heck she is still Oprah!

All the best Oprah!

I quit watching Oprah after a couple of comments she made on interviews. At the cutting of the ribbon for the opening of her all girls school in Africa a reporter said. "the american people think you should be using your money for something like this in the US instead of here." Oprah's comment: I don't owe the white people anything. I don't think he mentioned race in his question. I also believe that it was a white person who hired her in Chicago for A.M. Chicago. Perhaps she already thanked him for that and didn't owe any other white person anything.

When she was stumping for Obama she always put on her 'black' voice at the conventions when she was speaking. I don't think that was necessary to make her point. It just turned me off on her. I believe her to not be a genuine person. I lost my respect for her. I do believe that her show has contributed much towards women to empower themselves.

This is just my opinion. I'm probably not very genuine either.

You are blessed. thank you.

I LOVE OPRAH. SHE HAS ENTERTAINED ME FOR MANY YEARS AND I WISH HER WELL. PEOPLE MUST STOP BEING SO OVER CRITICAL OF OTHERS AND JUST THANK HER FOR GREAT TV TIME, ESPECIALLY WITH DR. OZ, HER FRIDAY CHATS AND HER CELEBRITY INTERVIEWS.

P.S. I AM CAUCASIAN, YOUNG 71 AND LIVE OUT OF THE COUNTRY.

GOOD LUCK,
S.P.

I like Oprah, I heard her name when I was pregnad. I have waching some of his programs and I think she is great. I see her as an inteligent, and care woman. Money makes people happy and she has worked hard for it, so what is the problem?. If some people don't like people who have money because they have worked hard; you better start finding the way to be create and think out the box!!

Bway ..Yes.. English is my second language.

I must agree with Tonya McDonald. Oprah's religious views have become very wierd over the past ten years, and downright new age at the present time.

We stopped watching anything she was on about several years ago when she started making statements contradictory to our beliefs.

One can only hope her spot on daytime tv will be filled with sometime more worthwhile.

And to Bambi, I don't think you should judge people about how their parents are cared for. Some people have children, grandchildren and fulltime jobs, as well as elderly parents with health problems! In this country, and this economy, TAKING CARE OF THEM AND ALL ELSE WE DO IS NOT POSSIBLE! She is only trying to get someone to pay attention to this problem.

Oprah

You have taken and done what a lot of people want to do. From coming from a small world and with your strength become the best that you can be. You did it. Regardless whether your shows ending. It will be an new season and beginning in your life. We all need change and change is good.
Regardless of what people say on this comments site. No one can take away from what you have achieved and the things that you have given back.
No one know what is in your heart and has the right make judgements on you. Only God knows your heart.
I wish you all the best on your new journey.

"In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer."

To be honest I am glad Oprah's t.v. show is coming to an end. I once used to look up at her as a respectable, intelligent and beautiful Christian woman, but it is sad hoe people change when money rules them. sure she gives generously but to me she is just a vessel that satan is using and brainwashed her followers into thinking that new age, instead of Jesus is the way to truly be successful. Wake up America are you blind or are you just as lost selling your soul out to Satan for an illusion that looks like success but really spells disaster in the end. Hopefully oprah and many of her worshipers will find
jesus before it is too late.

Ms. Oprah Winfrey has made a major contribution to the planet through the Oprah show. She has inspired and motivated millions to live their dreams. Countless people have become successful overnight from launching their products, business and/or books on the Oprah Show. Oprah started America reading again, when she launched her Book Club. Oprah, continue to live on the High Road, and make your blue print on the citizens of this Great Nation we call America. Be Blessed.

Why bother to make a negative comment if you never bothered to watch the show.So what if she went from rags to riches, are you jealous? For the lady with the 92 year old mother, in most countries the children take care of their elderly parents.Go Oprah, right on.

Hell all Oprah fans I do believe as close to the truth you will ever get was Oprah.Although there were days when she didn't have the topic that you was looking for she always gave her best. Now all you smart people know her best may not have been yours so keep smart comments to your self.to Oprah you have been a great example in our country all lazy people need to better themselves,I dont feel sorry for cows light on beef or just dont eat it whatever you like and as for fat people never find a friend who will fill your head with you really look great let's go on a diet no it won't work.Thank you Oprah for all the reality days you gave America the best.A story about the good as well as the bad you just wouldn't do my story.I guess it was true I am still glad I live the truth and don't have no shame or blame.Stay true young lady continue to give your best in all that you do and just know One Nation Under God without him none of us are NOTHING blessing to you in all that you do just come do my story before you leave A Mom who kept the Faith I LLOVE YOU O LOVE YA DEAR TRUE FRIEND Derema aka Dee

She was interesting at one time; but then her shows became boring . . . even SHE looked bored (rewind & check out her spacy face when guests answer her questions). She should quit right now; it's better to quit before the downfall (take lessons from Seinfeld.)

How about Oprah spending some valuable time dealing with helping seniors who have special needs that may have to move from where they live (a retirement home) when they are advanced in age and their personal money runs out. Does she have any suggetions on where they can get help to ease the strain of their final days. Please Respond before it's to late.

Thank you,

Sherry

Daughter of a very special 92 a beautiful mother who is loved sooo much.

How sad she's leaving, but maybe is for something better. Would like to tell her that she's a really a SUPERSTAR, and I really admire her for so many wonderful things she's done wishing you the BEST. Hope to hear from you soon, so we could be in contact. WISHING YOU THE BEST!!!!

PS. Love your outfits!!

Sincerely,
LULU

Watching Oprah all these years has been a god send. One woman has given me so much knowledge, inspired me to be a better woman, and most of all given me hope. Thank you Oprah. Thank God for you.

Nina

P.S. Could you please send 2 tickets I would love to see the show in person, please. Thank you.

I take my hat off to her. It has been a wonderful ride and she spiraled all the way to the top. I wish her the best at whatever she sets out to do. God bless you, Oprah.

I watched the first Oprah shows in 1986 while in college and followed Oprah through two marriages, 3 children, moves, jobs, you name it. I used to think my life would be so empty without her show, but the last few years her interest and content has changed. In short, Oprah has forgotten who her audience is and has played to Hollywood, which is not what the average mother, wife, wants to see. It's interesting occassionly, but it was the human story, Oprah's interaction with the common person, that was so engaging.
And to David who says Oprah cannot be replaced: yes she can and yes she will. Sure she changed daytime tv, but someone, somewhere will come along and take that spot. I'm sad to see the old Oprah gone, but I'm happy to see the Oprah of the last few years move on to something different. Good luck to you Oprah and thanks for a good run!

It won't bother me because I really never watched her show that often....good luck to her!

I wiii be very sorry to see Oprah leave. I am sure anything she decide to do will be successful. I had hope that my neice could have been a guest on her show before she left, her name is Lynette Tucker, she has written songs, poems ,movies, chidrens shortstories, and more but ,don't have any contacts. Maybe it't still possible. Lynette is always giving to others and if given the opportunity to publish some of her works she would help those less fortunate than herself. Lynette wrote a poem about Oprah and had it framed and sent it to her but never got a responds. I wish Oprah would write her. Her address is 7904 Woodway Oak Circle Matthew,NC 28105 Thanks, MAY GOB BLESS

Opra and her production company are lying,I feel they are just jocking for rateings as usual. We really need new blood
in day time T.V.I'm sick an tired of all the movie stars
and their interviews, the so so call self help crap that does
not help anyone but Opra!!!!!
Let's get a move on,and move day time T.V. to something
different, like having shows how to help the homelessness,
the sick and starving people in your neighbhoods, lets put
our troops in this war on a pedistal, and keep them there!!!
Find cures for Dementia and other life threating deseases.
Opra get off the air,It's getting old,You are a beautiful
woman, you may have helped some people, but, really move on.

What took her so long. It could end tomorrow and I wouldn't care. She is one of the stereotypical "rags to riches" story who has placed herself, her so-called talent and her importance above everyone else. Good riddance, put somebody real in her time slot.

Oprah has so much class. How generous to give everyone time to prepare & grieve. With one so loved, respected and essential as Oprah, the void will be enormous - like the sun going dark. I hope she reinvents herself quickly.

I don't watch her show. Hope she does share her wealth like I have often heard.

I think she should do more reality not all this actors business.Self help shows where people can benefit like educational shows things of that nature.Who wants to hear about an actor having a baby or how popular they or how much money they make who cares.I love her shows but as soon as she airs actors business.I turn it.Have noughting agianst those people.Just don't care.Kim

Personally, I'm glad the show is finally ending although that is really just a matter of perspective in light of OWN. We'll still have her doing what she does only on a larger platform with even more power and more people hanging on her every utterance as thought it was holy writ.

If this happens, and Oprah uses her show to launch OWN, I predict that it will be the biggest launch of a cable network in history. Her audience will find her, regardless where her show is aired. I suspect that this will help garner additional cable and satellite households, as well. It could also garner additional carriage fees for Discovery and Oprah. I'm sure she has taken a calculator to it.

Oprah has given her stations an incredible run. She is not replaceable. Her value as a news lead-in (in most markets) is beyond measure. I suspect that distributors are licking their chops for these time periods. Many stations may opt to add an additional hour of news, especially the ABC o@o's which carry her. However, my guess is that Oprah will try to develop something to replace her syndicated talkfest. This would be a win-win for all concerned. She could promote her "replacement" for an entire season before departing.

Congrats to all concerned. Especially the King brothers who had the vision to launch Oprah nationally in 1986. I am very honored to have been a part of that effort as head of global marketing and creative affairs for King World during that era.

Thank you,

Sherry
