Aspen’s law enforcement agencies are all but begging people to stay away from the Pitkin County Courthouse next week when Charlie Sheen makes an appearance.
The sheriff and police departments are bracing for an anticipated crush of media Wednesday when, they say in a joint announcement that on “January 20, 2010 Carlos Irwin Estevez, also known as Charlie Sheen, is scheduled to appear at the Pitkin County Courthouse at 9AM for a motion hearing to modify a mandatory protection order.”
The modification is seen as a practical necessity to allow Sheen to have contact with his wife, Brooke Mueller (both pictured), whom he is accused of assaulting this past Christmas in the Colorado resort town. A restraining order presently forbids such contact.
The joint announcement notes that the courthouse is 120 years old and of an “historic nature” – meaning that a nearby traffic circle will be closed to vehicles and only a limited number of reporters, to be determined by a Monday lottery, will be let in. Public looky-loos will have to begin standing in line at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
However, if, as TMZ reports, a judge decides to grant Sheen’s request to hold the hearing in the judge’s chambers, there will be plenty of miffed media members in court.
“Access to Mr. Estevez’ hearing will be limited to 60 people,” the statement notes. “County Court access for other court proceedings will be limited to 35 people. Any members of the public or press not permitted into the Courthouse should be prepared to wait outside.”
