‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Voted Summer’s Most-Anticipated Movie by Fandango Fans

“Minions” is top choice for families and “Pitch Perfect 2” leads comedy voting in survey of ticket buyers

“Avengers: The Age of Ultron” is the top choice of fans in Fandango’s Most Anticipated Summer Movie Survey, the online ticket broker revealed Tuesday.

Disney’s superhero mash-up, which kicks offs the summer movie season on May 1, is outselling the first “Avengers” and all other Marvel movies at the same point in the same cycle, according to Fandango. It’s a good bet to challenge the original film’s $207 million debut in 2012, the biggest in history.

“Minions” was selected as the most anticipated family film by several thousand ticket buyers last week, with Disney Pixar’s “Inside Out” and Disney’s “Tomorrowland” a close second and third. “Pitch Perfect 2” was picked as the most anticipated summer comedy.

As dominating as the “Avengers” seems, the market will expand to accommodate other movies in what could be the biggest summer ever at the box office, said Dave Karger, Fandango’s chief correspondent.

“There’s clearly room for more, as ‘Minions’ and ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ offer laughs and thrills for families and comedy fans alike,” he said. “With so many stellar choices each weekend, we expect to see summer moviegoers spending more time at the theaters than ever before.”
