"The Avengers," or at least most of the members of the world-saving crew, will assemble on the stage of this year's Academy Awards.
Castmates Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo will present an Oscar together, show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced Wednesday. Missing in action are Scarlett Johansson, who played Black Widow but is currently starring in a revival of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" on Broadway, and Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor.
"The Avengers" was the biggest hit of 2012 by a wide margin, racking up more than $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office, but all that commercial success didn't translate into Oscar votes. Despite receiving strong notices for its witty script and director Joss Whedon's deft handling of his all-star cast, the movie earned a single Oscar nomination for visual effects.
Most of the cast who will take the stage on Oscar night are no stranger to awards ceremonies. All of the actors, save Chris Evans, have been nominated for Oscars in the past.
The Oscars will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane and will be broadcast on Feb. 24.
