'Black Swan,' 'Inception' Tops with Sound Editors

"Black Swan" and "Inception" each received three nominations from the Motion Picture Sound Editors, a generous group who handed out 48 separate nominations to 39 different films for its 2011 Golden Reel Awards.

MPSEWith seven different categories for sound editing, music editing and sound design in feature films, the MPSE spread the wealth around, honoring six animated films, seven documentaries and foreign films, and eight films each in the music, DX & ADR, and FX & Foley categories.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1," "The Social Network," "Tangled," "Tron: Legacy" and "True Grit" each received a pair of nominations from the group.

The MPSE also nominated sound editors in eight television categories, where "The Walking Dead" picked up four nods and "Temple Grandin," "The Pacific," "Human Target," The Tudors" and "True Blood" each had two.

The awards will be presented on February 20 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. Honorary awards will be given to producer Brian Grazer (the 2011 MPSE Filmmaker Recipient) and editor Walter Murch (the 2011 MPSE Career Achievement Recipient).
