Angus T. Jones, on the other hand, won't be back -- at least not as a regular, though it's possible he could recur on the series.

Jones, who plays the son of Cryer's character Alan Harper, famously trashed the show last year, calling the series "filth" in a video. Jones later apologized, and it's unclear whether the video had anything to do with his departure. The past season, his character Jake has been in the Army.

Del Toro and Hogan will co-write the pilot script, with del Toro attached to direct. Carlton Cuse ("Lost," "Bates Motel") is executive producing and will oversee the project with Del Toro. He will serve as showrunner if the pilot goes to series.

The "Daily Show" host took in the idea Thursday that the museum, at Southern Methodist University, features 43,000 artifacts from the second Bush presidency.

Stewart also responded to the idea that the first Bush presidency looks better to many people in retrospect than it did when George H.W. Bush left office.

The "Scream" pilot will be a one-hour adaptation of the horror-movie franchise, which currently boasts four films.
