‘Barefoot Contessa’ Host Relents, Will Meet With Young Cancer Victim

Internet outrage forces Food Network personality to meet with ill child

Days after she was caught in an online pressure cooker for not agreeing to meet with a young leukemia patient for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, "Barefoot Contessa" Ina Garten has relented and agreed to cook a meal with 6-year-old Enzo Pereda.

The foundation had twice approached Garten about Enzo's wish, but was rejected.

As reported by Gawker, a rep for Garten released a statement on Monday saying that she had been unaware of Pereda's pleas for an audience with her, and will clear some time in her schedule for the sick child.

"Ina became aware of Enzo's story this weekend and will be calling him today. She looks forward to inviting him to spend some time with her at the Food Network studios," the rep said.

The statement went on to note that Garten "contributes both personally and financially on a regular basis to numerous causes, including to Make-A-Wish Foundation."
