David Perel Named Editorial Director of Bauer’s In Touch and Life & Style Magazine

The former National Enquirer EIC who broke the John Edwards affair replaces Dan Wakeford, who oversaw both magazines

Bauer Publishing announced Wednesday that it had hired former National Enquirer editor in chief David Perel as editorial director of In Touch and Life & Style magazine.

He replaces Dan Wakeford, who had been editor in chief of both titles.

As editor in chief of the National Enquirer, Perel oversaw the team who broke the news about Rush Limbaugh’s oxycontin addiction in 2003, and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for exposing John Edwards extramarital affair in 2008.

Perel also led the relaunch of Radar Online, serving in roles at the publication as executive vice president and managing editor, as well as an executive VP of content for AMI.

“His strong relationships in the entertainment industry as well as his success in developing digital platforms will be invaluable to our business efforts moving forward,” said Bauer Publishing EVP Sebastian Raatz in a statement.
