Browning and Michael Maher launched the New York-based company as Wayfare Entertainment six years ago. Maher then launched his own company Start Media, which operates a few different entities, including movie theaters and a publishing company. Start Media absorbed Wayfare, rebranding it Stop Motion Pictures.

“We have had a very fruitful relationship, but it is mutually beneficial for us to both explore other options and avenues,” Maher told TheWrap. “Ben Browning is one of the most talented producers I’ve ever met and I have every intention of continuing to work with him.”

Maher said he had no immediate plans to replace Browning, though he will continue to finance its operations.

“Start Motion Pictures will continue to both develop material and finance and produce material,” Maher said. “‘Passengers’ would be the first film to be produced under the Start banner.”
