D'Angelo made a triumphant return Sunday, bringing down the house at the BET Awards after more than a decade out of the spotlight.
The funk and soul singer, who has performed a series of overseas dates and is expected to appear at this week's Essence Festival in New Orleans, is back in great form after his absence from the stage.
His time off included a plea to disorderly conduct to resolve an arrest for allegedly soliciting a police officer posing as a prostitute, as well as arrests ranging from possession of marijuana to DUI. A mugshot of the singer looking uncharacteristically beefy spawned speculation that he had lost the abs made famous by the "Untitled" video.
The BET performance was his first televised performance since his troubles. Welcome back.
