Beware BlackBerry: Albrecht Makes an Historic Slip of the Thumb

When Chris McGurk and Danny Rosett were let go – or resigned, depending on your version of events – it flowed from a painful slip of the thumb.

Will Chris Albrecht ever live it down?

Claudia Eller got the scoop yesterday that when Chris McGurk and Danny Rosett were let go – or resigned, depending on your version of events – it flowed from a painful slip of the thumb.

Albrecht had been battling with McGurk and Rosett over their demand for permission to spend $50 million to release their fall movies. Albrecht said no.

He left on vacation to Spain, and got an email about the situation from two senior Starz executives. But instead of responding to them that this was not working, and he wanted to remove McGurk and Rosett – he sent it to the whole company.

Allan Mayer, a spokesman for Starz, confirmed the gaffe.

"Chris Albrecht inadvertently sent an e-mail to the whole company that was supposed to go just to senior executives at Starz," he said. "In it, he discussed the removal of Chris McGurk and Danny Rosett. It was an unfortunate and embarrassing mistake and Albrecht and the company immediately apologized to McGurk and Rosett."

Apology accepted. And resignations tendered. Apparently Albrecht missed the email from the two execs, and hit 'Reply All' to a company-wide email about taking a half day vacation. All 400 employees got it.

This one has to go down in history as one of the worst, or maybe best, email gaffes on record.

A word to Albrecht and every other CrackBerry typer in town: Watch those thumbs.
