Former Warner Bros. chairman-CEO Bob Daly has been elected chairman of the board of directors of the American Film Institute.
The board of directors sets the AFI’s priorities and oversees its programs.
Sony Corp. chairman-CEO Howard Stringer remains chairman of the AFI board of trustees.
Daly succeeds Jon Avnet and John Cooke, who served as co-chairs for eight years. They both remain on as directors and Avnet continues as vice chair of the trustees.
Also re-elected as trustees are Robert Bennett, Allen Bernstein, Richard Frank, Kathleen Kennedy, John Hendricks, Barry Meyer, Leslie Moonves, Jill Sackler and Steven Spielberg.
Also appointed ex-oficio members of the trustees are Taylor Hackford, president of the Directors Guild of America; Ken Howard, president of the Screen Actors Guild; Barbara Phillips, president of the AFI Associates; Tom Sherak,
president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences; and John Wells, president of the Writers Guild of America, West.
Daly’s long industry career includes 25 years at CBS, including holding the title of executive VP of the CBS Television Network; and nearly 20 years at various divisions of Warner Bros. He also spent four and a half years with the Los Angeles Dodgers as managing partner, chairman and CEO.
He is chairman of the board of trustees for the nonprofit Save the Children.
