Emmy Award winner Bobby Cannavale will star in a Broadway revival of Clifford Odets' dark Hollywood story "The Big Knife," to be directed by Tony Award-winning director Doug Hughes.
It will be the first new Broadway production of "The Big Knife" since Odets' play premiered on Broadway in 1949, directed by Lee Strasberg.
The Roundabout Theater Company production will begin previews on March 22, 2013, and open in April 2013 at the American Airlines Theatre for a limited engagement through June 2, 2013.

"'The Big Knife' is well overdue for a revival," said Roundabout artistic director, Todd Haimes. "It's written by one of our greatest American playwrights with an array of great roles for actors to sink their teeth into."
He said Hughes "gets this period and this kind of high-style language" and that Cannavale, who will play Charlie Castle, is "one of those modern actors who you can really imagine fitting right into the 1940s. There's something wonderfully old-school about him."

Cannavale was nominated for a Tony Award for his 2007 Broadway debut in Theresa Rebeck’s "Mauritius" and received another nomination for his 2011 turn in Steven Adly Guirgis' "The Motherfucker With The Hat." He won an Emmy for his performance as Will’s boyfriend on NBC’s "Will & Grace."
Hughes, resident director of the Roundabout, has staged its productions of "Death Takes a Holiday," and "A Man For All Seasons," among many others. He won the 2005 Tony Award for best direction of a play for "Doubt."
