The musical version of the hit 1992 film “The Bodyguard” has extended its West End run by more than seven months, the show’s producers said Monday.
The stage version of the memorable Whitney Houston thriller opened nearly a year ago at London’s Adelphi Theatre. Procuers will release over 300,000 tickets for sale, taking booking for the show through August 30, 2014.
Like the movie, the play follows a former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard who falls in love with the singing diva he is hired to protect.

The play scored solid reviews when it premiered, with critics praising the performances and staging, while maligning its story line as overly trite.
Charles Spencer in the Telegraph wrote, “The Bodyguard is dross with a gloss, and proof that if you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear, you can sometimes come surprisingly close.”
The play has a book by Alex Dinelaris and features hit songs like “I Will Always Love You” from the film itself. Michael Harrison and David Ian produced the play, which has already undergone one major cast overhaul.
In September, soul singer Beverley Knight took over the lead role of spoiled pop diva Rachel Marron from Tony winner Heather Headley. A Broadway production of the show is reportedly being planned.
