Box Office: ‘Kick-Ass 2’ Debuts to $1.3M Thursday Night, ‘Jobs’ Takes $425K

"Kick-Ass 2" Will Battle "The Butler" for the Weekend Crown

"Kick-Ass 2" grossed $1.3 million in late shows on Thursday while the Steve Jobs biopic "Jobs" took in $425,000, according to studio estimates. "Kick-Ass 2" was playing on 2,055 screens and "Jobs" was playing on about 2,200.

The first "Kick-Ass" opened to $19 million in April of 2010 for Lionsgate, and Universal's sequel to that film is aiming for $20 million this time around. It will duel with The Weinstein Company's "Lee Daniels' The Butler" for the top spot at the box office weekend.

While Matthew Vaughn wrote and directed the last film, Jeff Wadlow handled thos duties on this one, which returns stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson Chloe Grace Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse and added Jim Carrey to the cast.

"Jobs," Joshua Michael Stern's take on the creation, near destruction and resurrection of Apple and its co-founder, is aiming for between $8 and $10 million this weekend. Ashton Kutcher stars as Jobs while Josh Gad plays Jobs' Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.
