Brad Pitt Goes to Battle in Trailer for Netflix’s ‘War Machine’

The film streams on May 26

Netflix is not playing.

This week, the streaming giant premiered trailers for two of its most ambitious film offerings to date: David Ayer’s “Bright,” starring Will Smith, and “Okja,” Bong Joon-ho’s follow-up to “Snowpiercer.”

Today, Netflix unveiled a first look at “War Machine,” a socially conscious war satire headlined by Brad Pitt.

Directed by “Animal Kingdom” and “The Rover” helmer David Michôd, the film is based on the book “The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan” by the late journalist Michael Hastings.

Pitt stars as decorated U.S. general Stanley McChrystal, who commanded NATO forces in Afghanistan before a journalist’s damning expose tarnished his reputation.

Tilda Swinton, who also stars in “Okja,” is seen briefly in the trailer. Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall and Meg Tilly round out the cast.

Netflix, it appears, is only getting started: Last week Martin Scorsese shocked Hollywood by announcing he’d partnered with the platform to distribute his ninth collaboration with Robert De Niro, “The Irishman.”
