Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf Welcome Logan Lerman to the Slaughter in New ‘Fury’ Trailer (Video)

“The dying is not done. The killing is not done,” Pitt says in action film set for October release

Brad Pitt, Logan Lerman and Shia LaBeouf are U.S. soldiers trying to emerge from the wars with their lives in the new trailer for David Ayer‘s “Fury,” which was released Tuesday.

Pitt stars as Wardaddy, a battle-heartened tank commander hoping to safely navigate his Sherman tank (fittingly named “Fury”) and the men it carries through Nazi territory during the final days of World War II: “I promised my crew a long time ago I’d keep them alive,” he said.

The new trailler starts off deliberately enough. Wardaddy offers his men, including LaBeouf and “Walking Dead” star Jon Bernthal, speeches about the nature of war as they prepare for an inevitable battle against hundreds of Axis soldiers. “You think it can’t get worse. It can. And it will,” Wardaddy says. “The dying is not done. The killing is not done.”

Then, Lerman — the “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” star who plays a fresh-faced rookie named Norman Ellison — joins Fury’s ranks.

“Wait ’til you see it,” cautions LaBeouf, his adorable mustache not getting in the way of his ominous words.

“See what?” Ellison asks.

“What a man can do to another man,” LaBeouf responds.

Director-writer Ayer (“End of Watch,” “Training Day”) certainly knows how to shoot realistic action, but this trailer only hints at a violent climax. However, action does seem a safe bet. If Fury’s crew wants to make it out of this war alive, we’re told they’ll need to roll over the corpses of 300 Nazis to do it. “We ain’t never run before, why we gonna run now?” Wardaddy asks.

As TheWrap previously reported, Sony initially slated “Fury” for a November release but recently pushed up the date to Oct. 17.
