Even a cute cat couldn't save “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” from a quick death on Broadway.
The latest stage adaptation of Truman Capote's novella is closing Sunday after a month’s run at the Cort Theater, victim to blistering reviews and lackluster ticket sales.

Richard Greenberg's adaptation stars "Game of Thrones" actress Emilia Clarke as Holly Golightly, but several critics singled out its feline star for their highest praise. The cat’s understudy Monte was fired shortly after the play's March 20 opening following reports of unruly behavior backstage.

Sean Mathias directed the play, which also stars Cory Michael Smith and George Wendt. The 1961 film starring Audrey Hepburn is considered the most iconic version of the story about a Manhattan party girl and her cat, a "poor slob without a name."
The latest Broadway revival of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," another property turned into an iconic film, closed late last month after a short run with Scarlett Johansson in the lead role.
