‘Breaking Bad’ Season 5 Picks Up ‘Right Where We Left Off’ (Video)

Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Gus Fring, talks about upcoming season — and a new commercial lets us extrapolate a bit

(Spoiler alert: Don't read this if you don't want to know anything about "Breaking Bad" season 5, or haven't seen season 4)

"Breaking Bad" season 5 will pick up right where the fourth season ended, with Walter White plotting his next move after killing arch-nemesis Gus Fring.

How do we know? Because of a just-released ad for season 5. And because Gus Fring told us so.

"I do know this. Season 5 takes up right where we left off," Giancarlo Esposito, who played restaurant owner and meth kingpin Fring, told TheWrap. "Literally, right after Gus's death."

He added that show creator Vince Gilligan "does that, I would think, because he wants to be in real time. This is where we left off, this is where we're going to start."

Esposito declined to say whether Gus returns in flashback, but added: "If I were in his position, I would more than likely explain some back history of Gus."

So what does Walter (Bryan Cranston) do after killing Gus?

In a brand-new promo featuring new footage, he threatens criminal lawyer Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk). It looks like Walt talks to him after killing Gus — or just before — because he still has the bandage across his nose that he wore in the season 4 finale.

In the footage, Goodman says he and Walt are done. And Walt corrrects him.

"Breaking Bad" returns to AMC July 15 for the first half of its final season. Look for our full interview with Esposito this week.
