Breck Eisner will direct “Stretch Armstrong” for Relativity Media, the studio announced on Thursday.
Eisner, who directed “Sahara” and a remake of George A. Romero’s “The Crazies,” will use a Dean Georgaris script to turn the action figure into a live-action movie.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to create a world that is both fresh and exhilarating,” Eisner said in a statement. “What really excites me is the chance to build a hero from the ground up."
Relativity picked up the project after Universal, which has a deal with toymaker Hasbro, dropped it in January. "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner had been attached to star, but he later dropped out.
Reports earlier this month linked Eisner to the project, but nothing was official.

Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh is producing along with Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir, SVP and managing director of motion pictures.
Tucker Tooley, Relativity’s president, will executive-produce.
