Brit Marling to Join Hailee Steinfeld in Daniel Barber’s Dramatic Thriller (Exclusive)

Previously announced as "The Keeping Room," the movie was written by up-and-coming screenwriter Julia Hart

Brit Marling is in final negotiations to star in an untitled dramatic thriller formerly known as "The Keeping Room" that Daniel Barber is directing from a script by up-and-coming screenwriter Julia Hart.

Wind Dancer Films, Gilbert Films and Anonymous Content are producing the film, which will co-star Hailee Steinfeld ("True Grit") and Nicole Beharie ("Shame").

Olivia Wilde was originally attached to star but she is no longer involved with the project.

Hart's script, which appeared on the 2012 Black List of Hollywood's best unproduced screenplays, follows three Southern women — two sisters and one African American slave — who are forced to defend their home from a band of civil war soldiers who have broken off from the fast approaching Union Army.

Jordan Horowitz of Gilbert Films will produce with Judd Payne, Matt Williams, David McFadzean and Dete Meserve of Wind Dancer Films. Gary Gilbert will executive produce with Michael Sugar of Anonymous Content, whose Nicole Romano and Trevor Adley will co-produce.

Marling can currently be seen in Robert Redford's political thriller "The Company You Keep," and she next stars in Fox Searchlight's thriller "The East," which reunites her with "Sound of Your Voice" director Zal Batmanglij. Marling's other credits include "Another Earth" and "Arbitrage." She's repped by CAA, Alan Siegel Entertainment and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern.
