As U.S. studios circle Baltasar Kormakur’s “The Deep,” U.K. rights for the film have sold to the Metrodome Group, and BAC Films has taken French rights to the Icelandic drama, it was confirmed in Toronto on Sunday.
“The Deep” is based on the true story of a sailor who, against all odds, survives a shipwreck off the coast of Iceland. BAC is handling international sales while WME Global handles the U.S. sales.
American and Australian buyers are also reportedly circling the project.
Kormakur’s previous films include “Contraband,” which topped the U.S. box office earlier this year when it was released by Universal.

Metrodome’s head of acquisitions Joel Kennedy negotiated the deal for the U.K. rights with Mathieu Robinet of BAC.
