Calvin Harris Thanks Taylor Swift for Co-Writing His Hit Song After Calling Her Out Over It

Apparently, double platinum sales go a long way in smoothing things over

What a difference a million or so record sales can make, huh, Calvin Harris?

Taylor Swift’s ex reached out on Twitter to thank the “Shake it Off” singer for co-writing his song “This Is What You Came For” on Friday.

Which was a perfectly nice gesture — and a pretty dramatic turnaround from his thoughts on the topic over the summer.

Harris thanked Swift, along with Rihanna — who is featured on the song — in a Twitter post highlighting a report that the tune was the only song to be certified double platinum in the U.K. this year, which according to the British Phonographic Industry means it sold 1.2 million copies.

“I am blessed to work with incredible artists @rihanna @taylorswift13 thank you!!!” Harris wrote.

In July, however, Swift’s representatives confirmed that she had helped pen the song, which was written while the two were still dating and credited to Harris and the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg.

While Harris praised his ex’s songwriting, tweeting that Swift “smashed it as usual,” he also made it known that he was none too happy about the post-breakup reveal of the song’s authorship.

“Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though,” Harris wrote.

“I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym,” he added.

Harris also made pointed reference to Swift’s rumored feud with Katy Perry and her relationship with then-beau Tom Hiddleston.

“I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do,” he went on. “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it… Please focus on the positive aspects of YOUR life because you’ve earned a great one.”

Good thing that’s all apparently water under the bridge now. Otherwise he might have to record a song about his ex — and everybody knows who the reigning queen of that particular sub-genre is.
