Cannes 2012: StudioCanal Nabs ‘Hunger Games’ Sequel Rights for German Speaking Territories

In new distribution pact, Lionsgate gets rights to film library that includes "Total Recall" and "Basic Instinct"

As part of a new pact with Lionsgate, StudioCanal will distribute "Catching Fire," the next installment of "The Hunger Games" franchise, in all German-speaking countries.

Under the deal, Lionsgate will distribute StudioCanal's library of more than 2,000 titles.

The two partners made the announcement from the Cannes Film Festival.

Lionsgate is riding high with its recent acquisition of Summit, the studio behind "Twilight." "The Hunger Games" is nearing $650 million at the worldwide box office.

The company is also known for its ability to successfully mine film libraries and exploit digital and television distribution channels. StudioCanal's library includes such notable films as "Total Recall," "Basic Instinct," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Tender Mercies" and "Grand Illusion."
