Jarmusch's vampire romance joins main competition lineup; four other films added to Un Certain Regard and out-of-competition slots

Jim Jarmusch‘s “Only Lovers Left Alive” has been added to the main competition lineup at the Cannes Film Festival, Cannes organizers announced on Friday.

The Jarmusch film, a vampire romance starring Tom Hiddleston, Tilda Swinton, Mia Wasikowska and John Hurt, is one of five new movies added to the Cannes slate, and the only one to join the main competition.

Other additions include an out-of-competition screening of “Shoah” director Claude Lanzmann’s “Le Dernier des Injustes” and Un Certain Regard screenings of Iraqi-Kurdish director Hiner Saleem’s “My Sweet Pepperland,” Katrin Gebbe’s “Tore Tanzt” and Argentinian director Lucia Puenzo’s “Wakolda.”

The addition of the Jarmusch films brings the total number of films in the main competition to 20.

These are the final films that will be added to the festival's programming slate, the Cannes release said.

The festival begins on May 15 with a screening of Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" and runs through May 26. Steven Spielberg will head the jury, which also includes Nicole Kidman, Christoph Waltz and Ang Lee.
