Carla Hacken is leaving New Regency after eight months as president of production, CEO Brad Weston told the staff Thursday.
The company is searching for a replacement, Weston said in a memo.
Hacken joined New Regency in November from Fox 2000, where she was an executive vice president of production. Her move was seen as part an overhaul of New Regency following Arnon Milchan's return to a more active role as the company's chairman.
The production company behind blockbusters such as "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks" has had a rough patch at the box office, with films like "In Time" and "Love and Other Drugs" failing to excite audiences.

I am writing to let you know that Carla Hacken, our president of production, is leaving the company effective this week.
Carla joined New Regency from 20th Century Fox eight months ago, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
A search is underway for a new president of production to lead our very strong team and we look forward to updating you as we approach a decision.
