Charlie Sheen thinks everyone needs to just mellow out.
After a wild night in New York City that ended with Sheen hospitalized, TV’s highest paid actor is back in L.A. and going back to work instead of rehab … and that should be no big deal, says Sheen.
“The story is totally overblown,” the actor, who apparently flew into an early morning rage Tuesday in NYC after he discovered his wallet and cell missing, texted Radar, “and overplayed as far as the reality of the situation.”
Sheen’s representatives said Tuesday that the actor’s state was due to an allergic reaction to medication, but reports alleged that Sheen, who in “a preventative measure” entered a rehab program Feb. 23 and has been in and out of treatment since, was discovered naked and disoriented in a trashed suite at the Plaza Hotel with a prostitute cowering in the bathroom.
“I know what went down and that’s where it will stay,” Sheen said to Radar, “under wraps.”
OK, but others are talking.
In an moment of great Hollywood understatement, Sheen’s manager Mark Berg told People that the actor is “looking forward to going back to work.” Sheen will be shooting a brief cameo as himself in Hilary Duff’s “She Wants Me” before returning to the set of the eighth season “Two and a Half Men” on next Tuesday.
It sure beats going back to jail, which could have been a real possibility if Sheen had been arrested in New York or charges were filed by the Plaza. Sheen, who has had a number of run-ins with the law over the years, was just eight days short of completing the three-month probation he was on for a Christmas Day 2009 domestic violence incident with wife Brooke Mueller in Aspen.
Sheen’s ex-wife Denise Richards, who was across the hall from Charlie in her own suite at the Plaza on Monday with the couple’s two daughters, has been talking a lot, but saying very little, other than promoting her new show “Blue Mountain State.”
Richards appeared looking a bit red-eyed on the Howard Stern show on Tuesday morning and on CNN later in the day. On Wednesday, she told NBC’s “Today Show” that “I did not call 911, other than that, the details of what went on in the room, what went on that night, I prefer to keep private and personal,” Richards said. “This is Charlie,” she added, “if he wants to discuss it, I’ll let him do it. But at the moment, I don’t want to say anything.”
