‘Cheers’ Reunion, Anyone? Rhea Perlman Joins Kirstie Alley in TV Land’s ‘Giant Baby’

Rhea Perlman will play the assistant and best friend of her former "Cheers" co-star Kirstie Alley

TV Land's upcoming pilot "Giant Baby" is shaping up to be a place where everybody knows your name.

Getty Images Rhea Perlman has signed on to co-star with her former "Cheers" cohort Kirstie Alley in the comedy, TV Land said Friday.

Perlman will play Thelma the long-suffering assistant and best friend of Alley's character Madison "Maddie" Banks, a Broadway star whose life is turned upside-down when her son Arlo, who she'd given up for adoption, shows up after his adoptive mother dies. Thelma encourages Maddie to form a relationship with Arlo, despite Maddie's reservations that he won't fit into her glamorous lifestyle.

“We’ve hit the jackpot getting Kirstie and Rhea back together,” said Keith Cox, TV Land's executive vice president, development and original programming. “It’s a dream to work with such talented comedic actors like these ladies and create a show for them that’s funny and has interesting characters — ‘Giant Baby’ hits all of those notes.”

"Giant Baby" is written and executive produced by by Marco Pennette ("Ugly Betty," "Desperate Housewives"). Alley and Jason Weinberg also executive produce. Larry W. Jones and Keith Cox serve as executive producers for TV Land.
