China’s Film Czar Han San Ping Visiting Hollywood

China Film Group chairman Han San Ping has meetings at Sony and Paramount

Han San Ping, the chairman of China Film Group, is in Los Angeles and will meet with Sony and Paramount executives this week, TheWrap has learned.

Han is the government official who controls nearly every aspect of the film market in China. He determines what movies can be imported and where they will be distributed. China Film Group is the only importer of foreign films in China. It also is a significant exporter of Chinese movies.

He is being accompanied by Dan Mintz, and Peter Xiao, the CEO and the chairman of Chinese media conglomerate DMG Entertainment.

In addition to being chairman of China Film Group, Han is president of Beijing Film Studio and the Chinese Children Film Studio. He also is vice managing director of the Chinese Film Producer Association and is a movie director.

This is Han's first visit to Los Angeles in more than two years.

The timing of the visit is especially notable because last month, the White House announced that China agreed to significantly increase market access for U.S. movies.

Officials at DMG's Los Angeles office did not return calls for comment.
