New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was one of President Trump’s most vocal supporters during the campaign, but his germ-infested cell phone might have cost him a White House job, according to a new book obtained by the Daily Mail.

“Devil’s Bardain: Steve Bannon, Donald Trump, and the Storming of the Presidency,” hits stores on Tuesday. Ahead of its release, The Daily Mail obtained excerpts, including Christie’s plan to receive a call from President Obama on Election Night.

“If you win he’s going to call my phone, and I’ll pass it over to you,” Christie allegedly told Trump, who is widely regarded as a germaphobe.

“Hey Chris, you know my f—–g phone number. Just give it to the president. I don’t want your f—-g phone,” Trump fired back, according to the Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail reported that Trump ‘”flashed a look of annoyance, clearly resenting the intrusion and was repulsed by the idea of having somebody else’s phone next to his face.”

Trump staffers said Christie thinking Trump would use his phone was the “ultimate mistake,” and one from which he “wouldn’t recover,” according to the Daily Mail. The New Jersey governor never received a job in the White House despite Trump initially making Christie his transition team leader.

As noted by the Daily Mail, previous theories as to why Christie was left out of the administration include forcing himself into photos with Trump on election night and the Bridgegate scandal, but Joshua Green’s new book claims it was simply his disgusting cell phone.
