After working together on "Think Like a Man," comedians Kevin Hart, J.B. Smoove and Sherri Shepherd have joined the cast of Chris Rock's showbiz-themed comedy that is known around Hollywood under the title of "Finally Famous," TheWrap has learned.
Rock plays Andre, a comedian-turned-movie-star who tries to reinvent himself as a serious actor. He’s also a recovering alcoholic who owes his sobriety to his fiancée (Gabrielle Union), a reality TV star eager to stage their wedding on her show.
Rosario Dawson co-stars as a journalist assigned to interview Andre for a New York magazine. A former party animal, she's now sober and in a committed relationship, but sparks fly as she interviews the movie star.
Hart will cameo as Rock's Ivy-educated agent who supports his client's upcoming televised wedding, while Smoove will play Rock's "security guard-slash-assistant" who is never far from his boss' side.
Shepherd will play Rock's ex-girlfriend from high school who still lives in the neighborhood he grew up in and thinks about what could have been.
Scott Rudin and Eli Bush are producing Rock's movie, which Barry Diller is financing. Rock wrote and will direct the New York-set film, his third behind the camera following "Head of State" and "I Think I Love My Wife."
Hart could be the hardest-working actor in Hollywood at the moment, which may be why he only has time to cameo in Rock's movie. Currently appearing in "This Is the End," he also stars in the upcoming concert film "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain." Additionally, Hart has wrapped Universal's "Ride Along" with Ice Cube, WB's "Grudge Match" with Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro, and Screen Gems' remake of "About Last Night." Hart, who recently signed on to star opposite Josh Gad in an untitled buddy comedy, is repped by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Smoove recently teamed with his manager Rick Dorfman, veteran comedy agent Conan Smith and indie producer/financier Adam Benowitz to form Converge Media Group. Best known for playing Leon Black on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," Smoove recently reteamed with Larry David for the cable network's upcoming movie "Clear History." His recent feature credits include "The Dictator" and "A Haunted House," and he'll soon be heard as the voice of Hackus in "The Smurfs 2." Smoove is repped by WME.
Shepherd currently hosts ABC's talk show "The View" and was last seen on the big screen in the Katherine Heigl movie "One For the Money." She's repped by ICM Partners, Darris Hatch Management and attorney Sandy Fox.
