Chris Rock Says He Gave Terrible Advice to Michelle Obama: ‘I’d Never Felt So Stupid’ (Video)

Comedian recounts his awkward interaction with the former First Lady to Jimmy Fallon

Chris Rock recently learned an important lesson: never give advice to Michelle Obama if you’re Chris Rock.

On a Tuesday night “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” appearance, Rock described going to the White House for the final President Obama party before his term ended. Rock was invited along with other black influencers and celebrities, such as Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Stevie Wonder.

“It’s like I died and went to black heaven,” he observed.

He recalled ending up alone at a table chatting with the former First Lady.

“I’m not really supposed to be alone with Michelle Obama,” he remarked. “That’s not really my lane. I don’t know how to talk politics.”

Rock says at one point, Obama said, “I don’t know what we’re gonna do. The country… I don’t know, I don’t know what’s gonna happen. This is such a crazy time.”

That’s when he offered her some positive advice. “And I go, ‘You’ll be ‘aight.’”

“‘You know, you’ll get any kind of job you want,’” he continued. “‘I mean, ‘The View,’ ‘The Housewives of Atlanta.’… And Michelle Obama looks at me like, ‘I was talking about the country. I wasn’t talking about me. I was talking about the country.’”

Fallon can barely control himself (more than usual anyway).

“I’d never felt so stupid in my life. It’s like my GED flared up,” Rock added.

He said that Obama went to talk to Oprah, leaving him to look for new companions”as dumb” as him. “Where the athletes at?” he said

Rock described the rest of the party, which included performances from Wonder and Herbie Hancock. “It’s a bunch of black people dancing our asses off — it’s amazing in a place that slaves made okay… black people enjoying the White House, man. Just amazing.”
