They will release the film on video-on-demand platforms and digitally in the spring, and then release it in theaters before it moves to the DVD and broadcast windows. Cinedigm will handle most of the distribution, including theatrical and digital, while Tribeca Film oversees the VOD release.

Zisk is a veteran TV director, having made episodes of “Weeds,” “Nurse Jackie,” “Alias” and “Shameless.” His first film is about an English teacher whose passion for her job contrasts sharply with her subdued personal life. A former pupil returns to her town having failed in his own profession, upending her life.

Nathan Lane, Greg Kinnear, Lily Collins and Michael Angarano also appear in the film, which Matthew E. Chausse, Naomi Despres, Ben LeClair and Robert Salerno produced.

“’The English Teacher’ has everything audiences want in an independent film,” Vincent Sordino, VP of theatrical acquisitions for Cinedigm, said in a statement. “It cleverly tells an honest, relatable and extremely funny story of self-discovery and reinvention that pops with great performances.”
