Cinedigm, Voltage Pictures Strike 5-Film Deal with Marco Weber’s Rapid Eye Films

Weber, who produced "Igby Goes Down," will develop, finance and produce movies for his new genre label

Cinedigm and Voltage Pictures have entered a three-year, five-film deal with new genre label Rapid Eye Film whereby Cinedigm will distribute the films domestically and Voltage will sell the international rights, the companies announced on Monday.

Veteran German producer Marco Weber (left) founded Rapid Eye to develop, finance and produce films. In the past, he has produced films such as the sci-fi thriller “The Thirteenth Floor” and the coming-of-age drama “Igby Goes Down.”

This new deal begins with “Unraveling,” a sci-fi thriller Weber wrote and will direct. Now casting, the film will start production  in the spring.

“Marco and I have a long and successful history, going back to ‘Igby Goes Down,’” Chris McGurk, chairman and CEO of Cinedigm, said in a statement. “And, we are thrilled to work with Nic and his team at Voltage to bring these exciting new films to the worldwide marketplace.”

Cinedigm is both a leading software company for digital exhibition and a distributor, providing movies with a release in theaters, on-demand, digital and DVD. It will handle digital distribution for Weber’s directorial debut “Leashed,” a teen thriller starring Gia Mantegna and Devon Werkheiser.

Nicolas Chartier’s Voltage Pictures is an international sales, finance and production company that has backed movies like “The Hurt Locker.”

“We loved the script of ‘Unraveling’ and wanted to be involved with Marco on this one and his next movies,” Chartier said in a statement  “Cinedigm is growing very fast and having a US distributor on the films will be great for all our international partners.”
