Meatballs may not be the healthiest part of food pyramid, but that didn’t stop the cast from Sony Pictures Animation’s “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” from taking on an important nutritional cause.
The month-long effort is part of Feeding America’s attempts to raise awareness about the estimated 49 million people who struggle with hunger in the United States.
There will be other food packing events held in Boston, Detroit, Phoenix and Atlanta, as part of a collaboration between Sony Pictures Animation and produce companies like California Giant Berry Farms, Cal-Organic Farms, and Grimmway Farms. The partners said they plan to provide more than 200,000 pounds of fresh produce to children and families in need. The donated fruits and vegetables will be distributed to local shelters, pantries and schools.
Despite those titular meatballs, the film makers will also help promote the benefits of healthy eating by tagging produce from these growers with “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” artwork.
Sony Pictures Animation partnered with Feeding America on similar events tied to the release of the first Cloudy film in 2009.
