Some country music fans wondered why the hell Ashton Kutcher “dropped the mic” using a catfish rather than an actual microphone at the CMT Awards on Wednesday.

Well, you can thank Nashville Predators hockey fans for the fishy move.

A Predators fan who chucked a dead catfish onto the ice during Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Predators and the Pittsburgh Penguins was arrested for “disorderly conduct, disrupting a meeting and possession of an instrument of a crime” late last month.

But when Kutcher did it — in Nashville, Tennessee, of course — he got applause and laughter from the audience. Yeah, they’re a bit more friendly than Pittsburgh fans …

Kutcher was a presenter at the CMT Awards on Wednesday, and while he hails from Cedar Rapids, Iowa — not Nashville — he’s in tune with the catfish obsession.

The “That ’70s Show” actor embraced the hockey tradition before announcing the award for best collaborative video, name-checking each of the nominees — including Carrie Underwood, the wife of Nashville Predators captain Mike Fisher.

“Carrie the Stanley Cup across this great city of Nashville,” Kutcher dubbed the “American Idol” alum, who went on to win yet more CMT Awards throughout the night.
