At the top of tonight’s episode of “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert took a moment to lay into Trump’s announcement Wednesday morning that he intends to ban transgender people from serving in the military. (Spoiler alert: Colbert isn’t a fan.)

“I began my day today as I often begin my days by checking Donald Trump’s Twitter feed to see how far the crazy has spread,” Colbert said. “Today, I really think he’s off his meds because today he went from crazy to cruel.”

The CBS late-night host then described the process by which Trump made his announcement — on Twitter, with an abnormally long 10-minute pause after his initial tweet that read: “After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow …”

“What?! What won’t you allow?!” Colbert asked. “Socks with sandals? Dancing in public? Please tell me it’s not alcohol, I needs my drink. I gotta have it. What could it be, what could it, it took him 10 minutes to tell us what it was!”

Colbert then described Trump’s announcement, including the final tweet which, after saying that the military “cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail,” concluded with a blithe “thank you.”

“Thank you?” Colbert marveled. “F— you!”
