Jon Stewart Interviews 'Egyptian Jon Stewart' Bassem Youssef - After a Frisking (Video)

April, 25, 2013 7:09 am | Comments On #Bassem Youssef, Daily Show, Jon Stewart, Television

Jon Stewart welcome the man sometimes called "Egypt's Jon Stewart" to "The Daily Show" -- but only after Bassem Youssef's bodyguards swept the studio and frisked Stewart.

"Bassam!" Stewart asked at the conclusion of the bit Wednesday. "What was that?"

"America is not that safe anymore. It's a little dangerous," Youssef replied. "I'm a little bit scared to be here."

"You're scared of us? No, no, no. We're scared of you," Stewart said. To which Youssef replied: "Haven't you seen Fox News?"

Youssef talked about recently attending the Time 100 dinner after being named to the magazine's most influential people list. He said such accolades have only made the Egyptian government more angry at him.

"I love it!" he said.

Unless he was just kidding. A rep for Wahlberg did not immediately respond to a request for clarification.

Let's go to the transcript of the entertainment scoop of the week.

Is 'American Idol' Having Its Worst Week Ever?

April, 24, 2013 9:18 pm | Comments On #American Idol, Fox, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Television

Fox's "American Idol" is having a really bad week. The network’s big revenue generator is showing signs of distress.

"The falloff has really been the last two years," Brad Adgate of media-buying firm Horizon Media told TheWrap. "You have to look at what's happened since then with the competition and the audience fatigue and the judges and the number of choices out there."

At its height in 2006, the show was attracting about 30 million viewers an episode. Compare that number to last week's results episode, which brought in 11.9 million total viewers and was beat in the key 18-49 demo by repeats of "The Big Bang Theory" – yes, reruns.

That blow casts a dark shadow on "Idol's" recovery from five consecutive weeks of Wednesday night key demo lows, a...

The story of the "Today" show's fall from grace – from its ratings losses to the debacle of Ann Curry’s firing – has received a lot of press. But, there’s a whole other side of the story, which Brian Stelter’s newly released book, "Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV," exposes.

"I think it's two books in one," Stelter tells TheWrap. "There's the 'Today' book and the 'GMA' book. I think the 'GMA' story is so much more interesting, because 'GMA' finally figured out a way to beat the 'Today' show. 'GMA' had basically given up. Some staffers at 'GMA' felt they’d never win. But, they found a way to do it."

The ABC morning show first broke "Today's"...

NBC has ordered “The Million Second Quiz,” in which contestants will engage in intense bouts of trivia for 12 consecutive days and nights for a $10 million prize.

Getty Images The show, which will air this fall, is an attempt to win back viewers who have slinked away from primetime in favor of DVR and other timeshifted viewing. Networks know that live reality shows and sports contests still draw audiences, and "Million Second Quiz" has elements of both.

The show also tries to incorporate the second-screen experience into viewing, inviting fans to play along rather than tuning out in favor of the Internet.
