Comcast Launching 24-Hour Xfinity 3D Channel Sunday

Channel will launch with NHL Heritage Classic, Kings of Leon concert

Comcast announced Thursday the launch of Xfinity 3D, its new 24-hour, next-generation 3D channel, which will debut Sunday with the 2011 NHL Heritage Classic and a concert by Kings of Leon.

After that, the channel will offer music, sports, movies and original 3D programming, including images of African safaris, haunted castles, the ocean, the surface of the sun, the age of dinosaurs and more. (We suspect that some won't be real, like the dinosaurs.)

It will also show sights like Chinese dragon dancing and rhythmic gymnastics.

Comcast also said Thursday there have been more than 1 million 3D views On Demand since the Masters Golf Tournament in April 2010.

Last month, Comcast launched HBO 3D On Demand providing customers access to movies including "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," "Monsters vs. Aliens" and "Coraline."
