The looming crisis at Northern California’s Oroville Dam thankfully hasn’t resulted in any deaths. But that hasn’t stopped uninformed right wing internet trolls from wishing the opposite were true – for their political opponents.
A band of heavy rainstorms have pounded Northern California in recent days, causing Oroville Dam to fill to capacity, leaving its damaged spillway in danger of destroying thousands of homes in its path. Monday afternoon, nearly 200,000 residents were ordered to evacuate.
Cue Twitter conservatives, who seem to have latched onto California’s status as the largest blue state as evidence that it’s Trump opponents who will be primarily affected, should the worst happen in Oroville.
@ABC @downtownusa1 All liberals please head for Oroville, CA!!!!

Mean? Yes, but it’s also hilariously mistaken. California is a predominately blue state, but the area surrounding Oroville — solid red.
Danny Sullivan, founding editor of Marketing Land and Search Engine Land, tweeted a map illustrating that the afflicted area is one of California’s reddest and most conservative.
For assholes tweeting liberals will be washed away by #OrovilleDam — here evac area over CA red counties that voted Trump. Don't be jerks. pic.twitter.com/VTyZIbRgj8

Maybe check an election map next time before making reprehensible comments on social media?
Here’s a sampling:

@ABC in other news, despite lives being at risk the comments on this story are political & terrible. Life is in danger. Be kind.

@ABC Oh well, let @JerryBrownGov & @GavinNewsom make CA a sanctuary state & see how much help they get from @POTUS @realDonaldTrump LAWS!

@Phyllis_Grandly See? Others who liked this comment claim to love Jesus but forget there are people at end of these policies & disasters.

@Karoli @ABC What is the deal with these people?
— Coffee is my god (@coffee_minion) February 13, 2017
The thought did cross my mind. As long as it's just celebs and not regular people this could be a good thing.

@ABC They should divert $$$ from taking care of illegals and trying to destroy the country to fixing their infrastructure. #CalExit
