Cory Monteith‘s Canadian fans didn’t get to view the special public service announcement that aired after “Glee’s” tribute episode to the actor on Thursday.
The network that airs “Glee” in the actor’s home country, Global Television, said that it wasn’t able to broadcast the PSAs because show producers 20th Century Fox Television didn’t provide them with an international version.

“As a Canadian broadcaster, yes, that PSA was very important, but unfortunately we didn’t have access to an international version,” a Global Television spokeswoman told The Canadian Press.
The PSAs aired in the U.S. on Fox after its broadcast of Thursday’s tribute episode to Monteith titled “The Quarterback.” It starred cast members Jane Lynch, Matthew Morrison, Chord Overstreet and Kevin McHale. After delivering messages on the dangers of drug and substance addiction, viewers were given a number to contact for treatment. It would route the caller to a referral service for U.S. drug counseling programs, which may be one reason an international version was not produced.

20th Century Fox didn’t immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Monteith, who had struggled with substance abuse, was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room July 13, of what the coroner later determined was mixed drug toxicity, involving intravenous heroin use combined with the ingestion of alcohol.
