Couric’s First Guests: A-Listers, ’50 Shades’ Author, Flesh-Eating Virus Victim

Jessica Simpson, Sheryl Crow will appear in first episode of "Katie."

Fans of Katie Couric have wondered about how she will balance hard news and celebrity interviews with her new show "Katie" — and judging from her September lineup, she plans a canny combination of quizzing A-listers and exploiting viewers' fears.

Couric's first month of guests will include a who's who of female stars, including Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Lopez, Sofia Vergara, Sheryl Crow, Jessica Simpson, Susan Sarandon, Heidi Klum, Chelsea Handler, Demi Lovato and Wendy Williams, the show announced.

But not everyone on the show will be a celebrity. After the Sept. 10 premiere episode, with Simpson and Crow, the second episode will feature 24-year-old Aimee Copeland, a Georgia graduate student who this summer lost parts of all her limbs to a rare flesh-eating bacteria. Other guests will discuss recent crime-related news stories.

Also in September, Couric will interview EL James, author of the "50 Shades of Grey" trilogy.

Lovato, who will appear the week of her "X Factor" debut, will discuss her fight with anorexia and bulimia as she and Couric address the broader issue of eating disorders.

Couric will balance celebrities with news by hosting Sharon and Lexie Love, relatives of murdered University of Virginia student Yeardley Love. She will also speak with Raffaele Sollecito, Amanda Knox's boyfriend.

And — smoothly transitioning away from grisly headlines — Couric will spend the Williams episode talking about hair.
