Courtney Love Claims She Wrote ‘Bitch With Zits’ Note Found on Kurt Cobain

Letter turns up 20 years after Nirvana singer’s suicide

The wife of late grunge rocker Kurt Cobain is claiming she wrote the note that called her a “bitch with zits” and mocked the couple’s wedding vows.

According to Cobain biographer Charles R. Cross, Courtney Love says in an email that she wrote the nasty note found in Cobain’s wallet released by Seattle police earlier this week.

“Do you Kurt Cobain take Courtney Michelle Love to be your lawful shredded wife even when she’s a bitch with zits and siphoning all [your] money for doping and whoring … ” the letter reads.

Love said in her email to Cross that she wrote the note on New Year’s Eve 1991, when Nirvana appeared with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam in San Francisco, according to Cross.

That claim is backed up, Cross wrote in the Seattle Times, by handwriting analysis. But, he wrote, the initial reporting on the note suggests the handwriting is similar to that of Cobain’s suicide note, which was penned just over 20 years ago.

So why would Courtney Love write such a nasty note about herself — and why would her husband keep it?

Cross said the couple regularly traded self deprecating notes like this — and the last line was a vow to have sex “at least once a week O.K.”
