The Hammer Museum will honor artists Barbara Kruger and Cindy Sherman on Oct. 6 at the museum's 10th anniversary Gala in the Garden, which will include a performance by singer Katy Perry.
Actor-musician and noted art collector Steve Martin will present the tribute to Sherman (right), while MSNBC host Rachel Maddow will make the presentation for Kruger (left).
"It is a true honor to celebrate two such accomplished artists," Hammer Museum Director Ann Philbin told TheWrap. "Barbara and Cindy are powerhouses, their work and its influence extends well beyond the art world and each has had a profound effect on visual culture. They are heroes of mine for sure—but I suspect that I share that with many."
The gala is the Westwood museum's annual fund-raiser that honors "individuals who have made significant contributions to the arts."
Past honorees include Matt Groening, Lari Pittman, Alice Waters, Charles Ray, Miuccia Prada, John Baldessari, Joan Didion, Ed Ruscha, Dave Eggers and Frank Gehry.
Last year's event raised more than $1.7 million, with funds going to support the museum's exhibitions and programming.
Elizabeth and Armie Hammer, "Social Network" actor and great-grandson of museum founder Armand Hammer, will serve as event co-chairs with Jeanne and Anthony Pritzker, who sits on the Hammer’s Board of Directors.
